Shaw University seeks a Career Advisor within the Experiential Learning & Career Development Center to guide students and alumni in career planning, assessments, and job-search strategies, delivering individual and group counseling and coordinating workshops across campus.

Reporting to the Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development, the Career Advisor for the Experiential Learning and Career Development Center, is responsible for coordinating and supervising career planning programs for students and providing counseling services on an individual and group basis, using aptitude, personality, interest, and values inventories and computer guidance systems. This position will also present outreach programming and workshops to students in classroom settings, residence halls, and student organizations. The Career Advisor serves as the liaison between career services, academic advising, new student programs, and faculty advisers at the University.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day and climb stairs as required. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
Bachelors or better.
Masters or better.
Bachelors' Degree from an accredited four year institution required; Master's degree in Career Counseling, Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated competence in computer technologies, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation programs required.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community.
Knowledge and experience working with advising and leadership programs and an understanding of student development theory and student personnel administration required.
Ability to effectively counsel/advise college students in areas of career planning and academic development required
Experience using Career Services Management tools such as Symplicity, Handshake or CSO preferred.
Experience providing internship program development, career counseling, vocational counseling or performing related work, preferably in a college and/or university setting (graduate school experience will be considered)
