Job summary

The Rockwell Career Center at University of Houston seeks a Career Development Specialist to provide career development services to undergraduate Management and Supply Chain Management students through advising, workshops, and seminars.

You will advise students on exploration, resumes, cover letters, interviews, search strategies, offer negotiation, and collaborate with coaching teams to promote internships and job opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with career coaching or recruiting.
  • Experience considered in lieu of master’s degree.
  • In-office, full-time position.

Description

Develops and administers advanced career programming and resources for the students and alumni of a college. Serves as an industry expert in the areas of executive recruitment and organizational management. Develops new internship programs and placement opportunities with local, national and global employers.

  1. Develops and implements programming to educate experienced graduate students and alumni about career development and job-search activities.
  2. Consults with experienced candidates and employers on issues related to career growth and hiring programs; conducts assessments and administers executive coaching to working professionals.
  3. Contacts potential employers to promote placement activities for the college. Collaborates with executive recruiters to place graduate students and alumni in senior level and executive management roles.
  4. Serves as liaison between employers, faculty, administrators and alumni to advance career opportunities.
  5. Represents the college to external groups to promote the admissions, alumni relations and placement goals of the college.
  6. Manages experienced hire programs for one or more graduate degree programs. Monitors, analyzes and reports on labor market conditions and emerging technologies to assist in program development.
  7. Maintains and analyzes data and conducts assessments regarding career services and placement for reporting to the university and the media.
  8. Develops training for students inside and outside the classroom to help them build and assess skills related to professional communications and development.
  9. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Position Information

The Rockwell Career Center supports over 8,500 business majors within the C.T. Bauer College of Business by providing career and professional development, hosting industry-focused events, and connecting academia with industry. We are a committed team of professionals focused on student success.

The Career Development specialist will provide career development services to undergraduate Management and Supply Chain Management students at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, through individual advising/coaching, workshops, and seminars. Advise undergraduate students on career related topics such as career exploration, resumes and cover letters, technical and case interviews, search strategies, offer negotiation, and more. Collaborate with the undergraduate and MBA/MS career coaching teams to apply best practices and provide world-class career services. Work with industry relations managers to gain information and promote internship and job opportunities to students, and to prepare students to interview for these roles. Participate in FirstDestination data collection efforts. Support institutional events, including orientation, career mixers, student organizations and other student events. Collaborate with colleagues in the Rockwell Career Center, Undergraduate Business Programs Office and college-wide.

Qualifications

Experience will be considered in lieu of master’s degree. Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and present in a classroomenvironment
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with career coaching orrecruiting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Business experience in recruiting, consulting, industry specificroles, and/or experience working in higher education
  • Exemplary ability to motivate students through the job searchprocess
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in career coaching,leadership training within a business career services office, or acombination of business career services experience and industryexperience in a related business industry

This is a full-time, in-office position. Core office hours are Monday – Friday 8am-5pm. Evening and weekend hours may be required as needed for presentation or event coverage.

MQ: Requires application of advanced principles, techniques andtheory in a professional discipline or a thorough general businessmanagement knowledge. Knowledge of this level is typically obtainedthrough a directly job-related Master's degree or equivalent formaltraining in a recognized field of specialization that is directlyrelated to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum ofthree (3) years of directly job-related experience.
