Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District seeks a Program Supervisor for Work Readiness and Student Supports to serve as the liaison between industry partners, school departments, and Work Based Learning coordinators. You will also be the primary contact for families regarding district initiatives in career readiness and work-based learning.

The role supports CTE compliance, CIP Self Review, Youth Employment Regulations, and Pupil Accounting Rules for program requirements related to work-based

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited university; degree in counseling, education, social work, or a related field preferred.
• Valid State of Michigan Teaching Certificate; a School Counseling endorsement (NT) with experience supporting students in a CTE setting will be considered.
• Evidence of local partnership development with business/industry boards, trade unions, employers, other school districts, governmental agencies, and community organizations.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse secondary or post-secondary student populations.
• Knowledge of Career & Technical Education (CTE), industry certifications, and career pathways in skilled trades preferred.
• Highly organized, reliable, and self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, planning events, coordinating schedules, or facilitating professional development or workshops is a plus.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present confidently to groups of students, parents, and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Develop a project plan and timeline with the Executive Director to ensure deliverables for Career Readiness and Work Based Learning Seals are met.
• Manage department budgets for Work Based Learning (WBL) Internship Programs.
• Provide oversight into the issuance of districtwide Michigan Youth Work Permits.
• Work with the Executive Director and WBL staff to implement a competency-based Career Readiness curriculum and certification/seal.
• Assist in developing paid/unpaid internships and registered apprenticeship opportunities in high-demand fields and high-wage careers; collaborate with school admins and teachers to implement work-based learning experiences.
• Collaborate with district and school leadership, organizations, and employers to identify and implement a system for students to receive stackable career readiness credentials, certificates, and licenses.
• Provide supervision to the school-level Work Based Learning Coordinators located at high schools and Career Technical Centers.
• Review, collect, monitor student data and performance in identified CTE programs to ensure students are on track for Work-Based Learning Preparation and Training experiences.
• Organize quarterly in-person or virtual meetings with key district members on progress of Career Readiness and Work Based Learning Seals.
