Job summary

Goodwill Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (GWNYNJ) is seeking a Career Advisor to prepare participants for employment through career readiness services, case management, and barrier-removal support. The role involves intake, assessment, résumé development, interview prep, and coordinating with partners for job placement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Experience in workforce development or case management.
• Experience supporting individuals with employment barriers and connecting them to services.
• Experience facilitating workshops, orientations, or group sessions.
• Strong knowledge of career readiness practices including resume development, interview preparation, and job search support.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple participants and priorities.
• Ability to travel within the city for offsite events and service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Conduct participant intake, orientation, and ongoing assessments to determine employment, training, and supportive service needs.
• Provide one-on-one career advisement and case management to support participant progress toward employment and training goals.
• Facilitate workshops on career readiness topics including resume writing, interview preparation, workplace expectations, and job search strategies.
• Support participants with resume development, interview coaching, and overall job-readiness preparation.
• Identify employment and training barriers and connect participants to appropriate resources through the Community Partner program and other internal or external referrals.
• Assess participants for training grant eligibility and assist with enrollment and related documentation.
• Maintain regular participant follow-up to monitor progress, encourage engagement, and support retention in services.
• Manage veteran participants through assessment, service planning, case management, and referral to recruiters for job placement support.
• Work collaboratively with the Recruitment Team to ensure participants referred for job opportunities are prepared and appropriate for placement activity.
• Partner with the Community Partner team to coordinate referrals and help address barriers such as childcare, transportation, housing, benefits, and other support needs.
• Support offsite events, hiring events, orientations, and other citywide activities as needed.
• Proctor site safety exams and ensure all testing procedures are followed accurately and professionally.
• Maintain timely and accurate case notes, service records, and data entry in required systems.
• Track participant engagement, referrals, and outcomes in alignment with departmental goals and reporting requirements.
• Communicate effectively with participants, employers, partners, and internal staff.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
