Job summary

America Works of New York, Inc is seeking a Career Development Specialist to help Brownsville NYCHA residents re-enter the workforce through counseling, case planning, and referrals. This in-office role requires coordinating intake, assessments, and barrier removal to support clients toward employment.

You will develop individualized employment plans, meet with participants regularly, and connect them to trainings and opportunities while maintaining detailed records and reports for program

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4-year degree, relevant experience or advanced studies in social services is a plus.
• Experience working with clients in workforce development, social services or community-based contexts.
• Experience developing individualized service and employment plans for participants.
• Experience serving disadvantaged populations and those facing barriers to employment.
• Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed or Two-Generational methods a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint preferred.
• Understanding of workforce development, employment services and adult education a plus.
• Strong communication, professionalism, sound judgment, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake, eligibility screening, and job readiness assessments with participants.
• Oversee barrier removal before and after job placement, ensuring access to housing, healthcare, childcare, etc.
• Develop individualized employment service plans for participants.
• Meet with participants in-person or via phone/video to track progress toward goals.
• Provide support during job search, higher education applications, and exam preparation.
• Maintain case notes, update attendance logs, submit weekly reports and complete admin tasks.
• Refer clients to vocational trainings and certification programs.
• Meet enrollment and job placement targets on a weekly, quarterly, and annual basis.
• Model professionalism, foster a safe environment, and motivate clients to obtain full-time employment.
