Job summary

Jericho Project in New York is seeking a Career Counselor to deliver workforce development services to program participants, helping them achieve employment, education, and life skills goals across multiple sites. You will work with case management and Business Services to align tenants’ employment plans, maintain records in AWARDS, and provide ongoing job search support and referrals to training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Experience in workforce development and serving low-income individuals with barriers to employment.
• Ability to collaborate in a team environment and achieve performance goals.
• Ability to help ~105 job seekers secure employment and reach retention milestones.
• Willingness to travel across the five boroughs.
• Strong computer literacy and written/verbal communication skills.
• Experience with mental health/substance abuse recovery and homelessness.
• Experience with supported employment for individuals with disabilities.
• Knowledge of helping job seekers find and keep jobs.
• Working knowledge of AWARDS is desirable.
• Experience with Motivational Interviewing and person-centered planning preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of about 100 participants across multiple buildings to access education/training opportunities, prepare for employment, and find/retain jobs.
• Maintain engagement in all phases of tenant enrollment in Workforce Opportunities services, from outreach to assessments and service plans.
• Develop and implement client engagement strategies; ensure ongoing participation and biweekly outreach with progress notes.
• Conduct employment and educational assessments; update assessments and service plans at least twice yearly.
• Refer participants to job training, ESL, college programs as identified in service plans.
• Assist participants in building a job readiness portfolio (resume/cover letter) and interview skills.
• Collaborate with Employment Specialists; respond to job leads and arrange referrals via AWARDS and other methods.
• Support independent job search; identify new leads and refer to employers.
• Provide job retention/support services for at least two years; offer retraining referrals as needed.
• Access community resources to aid job search, retention, and re-placement.
• Attend regular team and supervisory meetings; maintain AWARDS records and prepare reports.
