Job summary

Texas Tech University’s University Career Center is seeking a Career Counselor to guide students and alumni in internships and job searches, deliver engaging workshops, and manage employer partnerships.

You will oversee employer relations, assist with the job board approval process, and collaborate with faculty to expand career readiness programs and events across campus.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field with two years of related experience.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Coach students regarding job search documents and internship and full-time employment opportunities.
  • Create and manage relationships with existing employer partners through exceptional customer service to enhance recruiting efforts and student career development.
  • Deliver workshops and presentations on various career readiness topics to support career exploration and development of students/alumni.
  • Assist in managing the overall approval process for employers and jobs on job board.
  • Assist employers with job board issues (posting jobs, on-campus interview schedules, events, etc.).
  • Focus on specialized programming and collaboration with designated college administration and faculty.
  • Deliver specialized programming as requested by college faculty and administration to support student career readiness.
  • Manage vendor partnerships and resources.
  • Work with students and alumni to enhance career development in face-to-face and virtual settings.
  • Organize, manage and execute assigned events.
  • Lead the planning and execution of job fair and/or career readiness event, including employer outreach, event logistics, cross-campus collaboration, marketing efforts, and post-event assessment to maximize student and employer engagement.
  • Participation in presentations and career readiness events outside normal work hours
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Description:

Under general direction, provides career counseling, internship and job search services, and outreach programs to students and alumni; oversees the case management of assigned active employers; assists with career services' events; teaches career decision-making course; markets career services to students, alumni, and faculty/staff.

About the Department and/or College

University Career Center, our mission is to promote the success of Texas Tech students and alumni through face-to-face and virtual methods. We serve the Red Raider community through individual appointments as well as presentations, career fairs, employer info sessions, etiquette events and our Career Closet.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two (2) years related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in one-on-one interactions.
  • Experience networking within a business environment.
  • Experience working with students, career counseling, job placement, human resources or corporate recruitment.
  • Masters Degree in related field.
  • Ability to make decisions and work both independently and in team situations.
  • Verbal and written communication skills and computational skill.
  • Technologically adept.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and professionalism.
  • Flexibility of work hours during peak workload time frames of the semester.
  • Strong ability in the areas of public speaking and interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite/Outlook.
  • Strong desire to work with students and student organizations.
  • Experience with career services management systems or job board platforms.
