Job description

We are seeking a Career Development Specialist (start ASAP) to support job seekers in building skills, navigating career pathways, and securing meaningful employment. This role centers on individualized career coaching, case management, and connecting participants to training and community resources that help overcome employment barriers.

The ideal candidate is passionate about workforce development, comfortable managing a caseload, and skilled at guiding individuals from assessment through job placement and retention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary career coach and support contact for assigned participants, providing structured and ongoing case management.
  • Conduct intake interviews, eligibility screenings, and needs assessments to determine appropriate services and program placement.
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized career and employment plans with measurable goals and target timelines.
  • Provide job search support, resume guidance, interview preparation, employer referrals, and placement assistance.
  • Offer one-on-one career coaching to support skill development, career exploration, and long-term employment success.
  • Connect participants to occupational training, supportive services, and community-based resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes, documentation, and data entry to ensure compliance with program requirements.
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality customer service and maintain regular communication with participants.
  • Assist with orientations, workshops, presentations, and outreach or recruitment activities.
  • Monitor labor market insights to identify in-demand industries, occupations, and career pathways.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Workforce Development, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in workforce development, career coaching, or case management.
  • Knowledge of WIOA programs, employment services, and labor market trends.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and workforce systems such as Maryland Workforce Exchange or similar platforms.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple participants while maintaining attention to detail and compliance standards.
