Job summary

The University of New Haven seeks a Career Advisor to lead career programming for students and alumni, including workshops, resume/cover letter services, mock interviews, and internship/job search training.

You will collaborate with faculty, student affairs, and internal colleagues to tailor training, provide individual appointments, support career fairs, and build programs that connect students with employers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 2–3 years of related student counseling, coaching, or advising experience required.
• Experience helping students and alumni with resumes, job searching, internships, interviewing, and graduate school preparation.
• Ability to learn and convey subject matter expertise is required.
• Knowledge of career planning theory, practices, and assessment tools.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff on academic and career planning programs.
• Awareness of issues facing first-generation college students, graduate students, and late-career alumni.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable handling multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Handshake, MS Office, and online career development tools.

Responsibilities

• Serve as subject matter expert for internships, careers, and career readiness initiatives for students.
• Lead yearly programming related to career management, including resume/cover letter services and mock interviews.
• Develop targeted programming to prepare students for job/internship searches (resumes, interviews, offers, salary info).
• Collaborate with faculty and student affairs to ensure adequate programs and resources for diverse career interests.
• Provide individual appointments and group sessions for career development and graduate school prep.
• Support events such as career fairs, networking, and alumni engagement.
