Overview

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering’s Office of Career Development and Corporate Relations (CDCR) seeks candidates for a Career Counselor. The mission of the CDCR is to equip and empower engineering students to discover, develop, and launch professional experiences and purposeful careers. This position provides comprehensive career development services to undergraduate and graduate engineering students, empowering them to explore career options, develop professional skills, and achieve their career goals. This position focuses on delivering individualized career coaching, facilitating engaging career development workshops, and contributing to the overall success of the Career Development and Corporate Relations team. This position will coach students concerning the discovery of career interests, seeking and securing experiential and professional opportunities, and navigating the transition from college to career. The Career Coach provides career coaching for engineering students and will collaborate with team members to develop new programs and initiatives in support of student professional development.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive one-on-one career coaching sessions to undergraduate and graduate engineering students, assisting with career exploration, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, and job search strategies and assist students through the career decision-making process.
  • Assess student skills, interests, strengths, and areas for development to determine the best approach for achieving career goals.
  • Actively engage in career coaching team and CDCR team meetings for updates, collaborations, and ways to best support large CDCR team in upcoming events.
  • Assist with the professional enhancement of students through interview preparation and facilitation of internship and job opportunities.
  • Participate in and support career fairs and other career-related events through academic year Contribute to maintaining and updating career resources, including online platforms, handouts, and resource guides.
  • Facilitate weekly Nuts + Bolts of Engineering Resumes group coaching sessions for students.
  • Facilitate a variety of requested Career in the Classroom Engagements requested by faculty, staff and student organizations.
  • Gain knowledge in career development tools and resources such as Handshake, LinkedIn, Big Interview, Salesforce, CareerShift, and various other resources.
  • Support program development and delivery for a variety of career development programs and events for CDCR team.
  • Collaborate with the career coaching team to evaluate and enhance programs and services to address student needs.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices in career development.
  • Promote the university and career services through participation in professional organizations.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the CDCR by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Level I
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field.
Level II
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field and 2 years of years' experience in providing career counseling and planning services.
Level III
  • Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related field and 4 years of years' experience in providing career counseling and planning services.

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED FOR EXPERIENCE: Yes, When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in Salesforce, Handshake, Vault, CareerShift, GoingGlobal and Big Interview Knowledge of Auburn University's administrative, systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience with career assessment tools and interpretation (i.e. Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Clifton Strengths Experience in student data collection and interpretation, career-related CSM (client management system).
