Job summary

NKU Beta Gamma Sigma is seeking a Career Advisor to provide direct career development services to NKU students and alumni across all majors. You will advise on internships and full-time opportunities, teach CEP 101, and build partnerships with employers and campus stakeholders.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with preferred Master's and demonstrated experience in a college career center. Some evening/weekend work and strong MS Office skills are expected.

Qualifications

  • Advising students/clients in career development and employment issues.
  • Experience with assessments like MBTI/Strong Inventory preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Experience planning and executing events/programs.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and extended hours.
  • Familiarity with MS Office and Internet applications.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of college/university career center experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct outreach and liaise with employers, NKU offices, departments and student groups.
  • Assist in administration of job fairs and on-campus recruiting events.

  • Prepare and maintain records and reports for assigned responsibilities.
  • Develop familiarity with resources pertinent to students' career interests.

Job description

About The Role

Provide direct career development services and instructional programs to students/alumni of all academic majors at NKU. Conduct related research and perform associated administrative duties. Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, employers and others in and around the NKU community.

  • Provide individual career and graduate/professional school-advising for students/alumni of all academic majors. Assist students seeking internships, co-ops, and/or full-time positions. Help students choosing a major/career or considering graduate/professional school. Administer and interpret career-related assessment instruments.
  • Prepare instructional materials on career services, career development, and various elements of the co-op/internship/job-search process. Present related orientations, workshops, and instructional programs. Teach the career planning course, CEP 101: Career Planning, as assigned.
  • Conduct outreach activities and serve as liaison between the Norse Network Hub and appropriate employers, NKU offices, departments, and student groups. Assist in creating newsletters and marketing materials to promote services and programs of the Norse Network Hub.
  • Assist in the administration of job/career fairs, on-campus recruiting, and related events. Coordinate specialized career events on campus as assigned.
  • Be familiar with Norse Network Hub policies, procedures, and maintain an ongoing awareness of all programs and activities. Participate in appropriate professional development activities. Assist in the day-to-day operation of the Norse Network Hub. Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain pertinent records and reports associated with assigned responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain familiarity/expertise with resources pertinent to the career interests of students.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge and experience advising students/clients in career development and employment issues.
  • Also prefer some knowledge and experience using computerized assessments such as Discover or Focus II.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed organizational abilities with a high attention to detail.
  • Comfortable planning and executing events/programs.
  • High energy level, team-player, strong initiative, and work ethic.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite software and Internet applications.
  • Willingness to work some extended hours, including some evenings as needed.
Education And Experience
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's degree in counseling, college student personnel, or related field strongly preferred
  • Required experience in a college/university career center for a minimum of 1 year
  • Certification and/or competency in assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory desired but not required.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Valid driver’s license required and dependable vehicle. Some evening and weekend work is required.
