Care Assistant (direct support professional)
Looking for a meaningful work and connection to a wider community that values inclusivity, personal growth and caring? Join L’Arche Tahoma Hope as an Assistant (direct support professional) and build inclusive friendships while offering support and personal care to adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD).
Participate in a team that works, creates home, and plays together, with regular opportunities to reflect on daily life and the joys and challenges of relationships across diversity.
Assistant full-time schedules are typically 40 hours per week across four or five days, plus one or two paid asleep overnight shifts (in a private bedroom). One weekend day and one split shift are required each week. Eligible for paid time off and generous health benefits starting at 20 hours/week, including vision and dental reimbursements. All training time and costs are paid. Some part-time positions available.
Want to explore the Pacific Northwest in your time off without the hassle of finding an affordable place to live? You can live in a L’Arche home! Room and board are deducted from pay at subsidized rates. Private bedrooms, furniture, linens and utilities are provided.
While the primary goal of Assistants is to develop mutual relationships with residents with I/DD, build community, and experience personal and professional growth, there are a number of responsibilities that accompany the role. Assistants are trained as qualified direct support professionals to provide support for residents with I/DD in activities of daily living, financial management, medical care, licensing documentation, and transportation. Assistants also help to maintain the homes by preparing meals, tending the outdoor spaces, cleaning common spaces, and doing other household tasks. Assistants participate in the life of the community by participating in and helping with community meals, worship and celebrations.
