Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED; vocational training in medical office administration preferred.
• Experience: 1 year in a medical office or hospital setting, including 6 months in scheduling or insurance verification.
• Licensure/certification: Heartsaver CPR certification required within 90 days for specified departments.
• Knowledge/abilities: Medical terminology, insurance plans, scheduling protocols; strong communication and data entry accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Schedule diagnostic, surgical, and outpatient procedures using scheduling systems.
• Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements.
• Register patients with accurate demographic and financial data.
• Provide cost estimates and preparation instructions to patients.
• Collect co-pays and reconcile daily cash drawer.
• Communicate with physicians and departments to confirm details.
• Ensure HIPAA and confidentiality standards are followed.
• Support system maintenance tasks in outpatient departments.
• Respond to calls and assist patients with scheduling needs.
• Document insurance and authorization information in the registration system.
