Job summary

Uvalde Memorial Hospital in Uvalde, TX is looking for a compassionate Referral and Authorization Coordinator to join our Clinics team and help patients navigate their healthcare journey with confidence.

In this role you will serve as the vital link between patients, providers, insurers, and specialty care partners, coordinating referrals and authorizations, scheduling appointments, and keeping patients informed with clear guidance and follow-up information.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous medical office experience preferred.
• Experience with referrals, insurance verification, and prior authorizations preferred.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and electronic healthcare systems.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate referrals and insurance authorizations for procedures, specialist visits, and diagnostic services.
• Schedule appointments with UMH providers and outside specialists.
• Keep patients informed throughout the referral and authorization process while providing clear instructions and follow-up information.
• Obtain insurance authorizations promptly, prioritizing urgent requests to prevent delays in care.
• Communicate and collaborate with providers, insurance companies, outside facilities, and clinic staff to ensure timely coordination of services.
• Maintain accurate documentation of referrals, authorizations, and patient communications.
• Educate patients on insurance benefits, financial responsibilities, payment options, and available financial assistance programs.
• Research specialty providers and insurance participation to help patients receive care from the appropriate providers.
