Job Overview

Performs a full range of diagnostic ultrasound imaging/therapeutic services and patient care, supporting the Heart and Vascular Institute's mission to provide diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensure

1. High School diploma or equivalent OR graduate of an accredited Medical Sonography program.
2. Certification in two of the following: Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS). One certification must be in vascular and one in cardiac.
3. Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Experience

1. Five years of experience in Cardiac and Vascular Sonography.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

1. Promote positive interdepartmental relationships with minimal complaints.
2. Oversee daily workflow and problem-solving in designated modality.
3. Maintain expertise and provide orientation to new staff.
4. Support cardiovascular staff through teamwork and professionalism.
5. Coordinate services with other departments in collaboration with supervisors and cardiologists.
6. Assist with quality assurance functions.
7. Monitor inventory of medical supplies to ensure uninterrupted patient care.
8. Provide performance feedback to supervisors/managers.
9. Troubleshoot equipment issues and report failures immediately.
10. Support protocol development with relevant staff and physicians.
11. Participate in HR functions like interviewing and staff retention.
12. Ensure consistent quality imaging across shifts and staff.
13. Perform imaging procedures according to standards, ensuring quality and safety.
14. Review physician orders thoroughly before procedures.
15. Participate in training and apply new skills to improve performance.
16. Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound equipment.
17. Produce high-quality images based on patient assessment and protocols.
18. Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize imaging and safety.
19. Assess patient needs and provide support for comfort and hygiene.
20. Prepare sterile trays for procedures.
21. Educate patients about cardiovascular procedures.
22. Engage in problem-solving and quality improvement initiatives.
23. Adhere to policies, regulations, and guidelines regarding imaging and patient care.
24. Position patients accurately per protocols.
25. Coordinate daily workflow.
26. Provide supervision and instruction to students, evaluating their performance fairly and timely.
27. Ensure completion of all components of the imaging process.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to differentiate shades of gray, sit, stand, walk for prolonged periods, wear lead aprons, lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds, and carry up to 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Work Environment
