Job summary

The American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) for our National Center. The role can be home-based in the United States with the center in Dallas, TX serving as a hub.

The SMA directs clinical and research input from physicians and scientists to produce statements, guidelines, and educational programs. You will consult with staff, oversee review of content, and translate scientific findings into actionable information for diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree plus clinical cardiovascular experience
• 3+ years professional adult cardiology clinical experience; 8 years preferred
• Superior writing & communication skills with publication history
• Strong interpersonal skills to work with volunteers, staff and the public
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects under time constraints
• Ability to understand, integrate, and summarize scientific literature
• Ability to manage high-level volunteers (domestic and international)
• Must be able to travel overnight ~25% of the time

Responsibilities

• Guide science volunteers in creating scientific statements, guidelines, and programs
• Provide consultation on science aspects to internal staff for public-facing materials
• Review content for Association websites and products
• Synthesize current science and medicine for internal and lay audiences
