Job summary

The American Heart Association seeks a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) to guide medical and scientific guidance across a mix of clinical and research volunteers. The position is based in the National Center with Dallas, TX as the home option, and remote work is acceptable.

You will help produce scientific statements, guidelines, educational programs, and public-facing materials while collaborating with internal teams and external experts to translate science into policy and practice.

Qualifications

• MD/DO/NP/PA with graduate degree and clinical cardiovascular experience; PhD/DNP preferred.
• Three years of professional adult cardiology clinical experience; eight years preferred.
• Superior writing and communication skills with peer‑reviewed publications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with volunteers, staff, and the public.
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects under time constraints.
• Ability to understand, integrate, and summarize scientific literature.
• Ability to manage high-level volunteers (domestic and international).
• Willingness to travel overnight ~25%.

Responsibilities

• Guide and partner with science volunteers in creating scientific statements, advisories, guidelines, conference programming, and related activities.
• Provide consultation on science aspects to internal staff for programs, publications, websites, press materials, and other activities.
• Review content for Association professional websites and products.
• Synthesize and explain current state of science to lay professionals and internal staff.
