The Healthcare Specialist will provide continuous, comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients in invasive cardiology, peripheral, and angiography settings. Utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills, the specialist ensures compliance with standards of care and customer service. This role involves performing angiographic procedures, including invasive vascular treatments and examinations, ensuring optimal image quality. Care is provided based on a partnership model between patients, families, and healthcare providers, with a focus on cultural and age-specific needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Recognize signs, symptoms, and data related to patient needs, reporting abnormalities and changes to the physician and charge RN.
- Utilize appropriate handoff methods to collaborate with healthcare team members, communicating pertinent physiological and psychological data.
- Assess patient, family, and environment for safety risks, proactively seeking out and performing safety initiatives.
- Provide ongoing, individualized holistic patient and family education with the multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrate critical thinking upon review of physician orders, making appropriate referrals, and contacting other health team professionals.
- Respond to emergency situations requiring immediate, controlled precision in a skillful manner.
- Implement measures to prevent contamination and disease transmission, using appropriate protective devices and equipment.
- Function as a scrub assistant to the cardiologist/radiologist, aiding in the technical performance of diagnostic/interventional procedures in the cath lab and angiography.
- Set up sterile trays and specialized equipment according to the procedure being performed.
- Maintain hemostasis post-procedure using compression devices, closure devices, or manual compression, recognizing potential problems and taking corrective actions.
- Maintain competency in arterial and venous sheath removal techniques and groin management.
- Demonstrate knowledge of department policies regarding radiation safety while using x-ray equipment, providing proper radiation protection for patients, self, and others.
- Screen all females of childbearing age for possible pregnancy.
- Properly wear radiation dosimetry badges, exchange badges monthly, and review/sign monthly dosimetry reports.
Skills
Required Skills & Experience
- 1-2 years of previous experience in the field.
- Good understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy to support learning stimulator role during complex ablations.
- Responsible for meeting individual education and training requirements.
- Participate in on-call coverage as required by the job.
- Possess a high level of professionalism and the ability to establish good relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
- Able to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Education
Required Education
- Graduate from an accredited school of Radiological Technology.
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT(R)).
- Valid Ohio Radiologic License.
- BLS (American Heart Association).
- ACLS (American Heart Association) within one year of hire.
