Job description

The H&V Specialist will provide continuous, comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients in invasive cardiology and invasive peripheral and angiography settings. This role requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills in compliance with standards of care and customer service standards. The specialist will perform angiographic procedures, including invasive vascular treatments and examinations, to ensure optimal image quality. Care is provided based on the TCH care model, promoting an ongoing partnership between patients, families, and healthcare providers. The care is culturally based and age-specific.

Job Responsibilities
  • Understand signs, symptoms, and data related to the patient's presenting needs.
  • Recognize and report pertinent abnormal data and changes in the patient's condition to the physician and charge RN.
  • Utilize appropriate handoff methods to collaborate with other healthcare team members and communicate pertinent data regarding the patient's physiological and psychological data.
  • Assess patient, family, and environment for safety risks and proactively perform safety initiatives.
  • Provide ongoing, individualized holistic patient and family education based on needs with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking upon review of physician orders, making appropriate referrals, and contacting other health team professionals.
  • Respond to emergency situations requiring immediate, controlled precision skillfully.
  • Implement measures to prevent contamination and/or transmission of disease, including using appropriate protective devices and equipment to prevent injury and maintain a safe environment.
  • Function as a scrub assistant to the cardiologist/radiologist using sterile technique principles, aiding in the technical performance of diagnostic/interventional procedures in the cath lab and angiography.
  • Set up sterile trays and all specialized equipment according to the procedure being performed.
  • Maintain hemostasis of a vessel post-procedure using a compression device, closure device, or manual compression, recognizing potential problems associated with insertion sites and taking appropriate corrective actions if indicated.
  • Maintain competency on arterial and venous sheath removal techniques and groin management.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of department policies regarding radiation safety while using x-ray equipment.
  • Provide proper radiation protection for patients, self, and others (use lead aprons, lead gloves, and gonadal shielding when appropriate).
  • Properly screen all females of childbearing age for possible pregnancy.
  • Properly wear radiation dosimetry badges, exchange badges each month, and review/sign monthly dosimetry reports.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 1-2 years of previous experience in the field.
  • Good understanding of cardiovascular and peripheral anatomy to support learning stimulator role during complex ablations.
  • Responsible for meeting individual education and training requirements.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as the job requires.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and the ability to establish good relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Able to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Schedule Notes
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 4x10s 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Plus call 5 PM - 7 AM during the week and weekend call from 7 AM Saturday to 7 AM Monday.
  • Call shifts require a 30-minute response time for emergency cases.
  • Required: Minimum 1 year of Cath Lab experience – ability to scrub and x-ray procedures. MUST HAVE IMPELLA DEVICE EXPERIENCE.
  • Preferred experience: Peripheral vascular, structural heart, experience in larger value hospitals; ACLS is preferred but not required.
