Job summary

Dell Medical School seeks a Physician Assistant specialized in cardiovascular and thoracic care to expand individualized services and diagnose and treat adults with complex conditions.

In the operating room, room-based PAs will assist in cardiovascular surgery, with responsibilities spanning patient history, assessment, diagnostic testing, treatment, education, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The role emphasizes high confidentiality and adaptability.

Qualifications

• Board-certified Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority and Texas Medical Board credentialing.
• Minimum 1 year experience in cardiothoracic surgical first assisting with endoscopic and open conduit harvest.
• Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
• Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality.
• Capacity to work well with physicians and other care providers as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare delivery team.
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Operating room-based Physician Assistants will primarily work assisting in the cardiovascular operating room.
• Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies.
• Provides direct treatment and management of conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
• Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning health conditions, treatment options and community resources.
• Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy. Participates in orientation and education of staff and students.
• Other related functions as assigned.
