Job summary

UF Health Jacksonville seeks a Surgical Tech II to assist surgeons with instrumentation and sterile technique in procedures performed in the operating room, and to provide patient care in clinical settings. The role includes maintaining surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring safety and adherence to AORN/AST standards, and following hospital policies.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, completion of a surgical technologist program, NBSTSA/NCCT certification within 1 year,

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; graduate of surgical technologist program.
• Certification from NBSTSA or NCCT within 1 year of hire or transfer; BLS from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of 6 months surgical technologist experience.
• Preferred: Associate’s Degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care under supervision of a licensed provider and RN following AORN/AST standards and hospital policies.
• Maintains infection control practices including proper attire, PPE, hand washing and scrubs.
• Ensures safe care by adhering to staffing, on-call, overtime, holiday coverage and disaster procedures.
• Supports efficiency by achieving on-time start times and quick room turnover.
• Applies cardiothoracic-vascular surgical technologist skills and prepares correct supplies and instruments.
• Handles instrumentation cleaning, decontamination and sterilization per AAMI and manufacturer guidelines.
