Job summary

American Heart Association is seeking a Science and Medicine Advisor (SMA) for its National Center, with the option to work from home. The SMA provides expert clinical and scientific guidance to volunteers and staff, shaping statements, guidelines, and educational programs.

The role requires advanced clinical credentials and substantial cardiovascular research experience, with travel about 25%. Join a team delivering high-impact health science across national and international efforts.

Qualifications

• Superior writing & communication skills with a publication history in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and the public as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple, complex projects in varying stages of development under time constraints.
• Ability to understand, integrate, and summarize scientific literature.
• Ability to travel overnight for approx. 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Guide and partner with science volunteers in the creation of scientific statements, advisories, guidelines, conference programming, and mentoring experiences.
• Provide consultation, guidance, and approval on science aspects to internal staff for programs, publications, websites, press releases, and marketing materials with health and science implications.
• Review content for Association professional websites and products with internal teams.
• Synthesize and communicate the current state of science and medicine to lay professionals and internal staff, and explain implications for the Association.

Education

RN, MD, NP, PA with Graduate degree

Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, etc.) preferred
