Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to deliver day-to-day leadership in the cardiac surgery service. The APP will coordinate clinical care, collaborate with physicians and nurses, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective patient management from admission through discharge.

The role emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient safety, and active participation in educational activities for the care team.

Qualifications

• Current Maryland license as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• Preferred: National Certification in respective area.
• NPI, DEA and CDS required.
• 2+ years of experience as NP/PA providing direct patient care, preferably in a surgical setting.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive history and physical assessments.
• Orders, obtains and interprets diagnostic tests.
• Designs and documents treatment plans and prescriptions.
• Initiates clinical pathways and ensures timely interventions.
• Performs invasive procedures as applicable (e.g., chest tubes, catheterizations).
• Collaborates with attending physicians on admission, discharge and transfer decisions.
• Incorporates patient and family into the care plan and provides education.
