Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for inpatient management of post‑surgical cardiac patients on the cardiac surgery step‑down unit. No OR responsibilities or ICU rounds. 13-hour rotating shifts, with 8–10 weekends per year; weekends and holidays required.

QUALIFICATIONS include master’s degrees (nursing or PA), Illinois RN and APRN/PA licenses, MSO privileging, and BLS/ACLS certifications. DEA registration may be required by department.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited nursing or PA program.
• Acute care certification required for APRNs.
• Current license as an Illinois RN and APRN or Physician Assistant license in Illinois.
• Privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO).
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
• ACLS certification.
• Controlled substances license and DEA registration as specified by department.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive appraisals of patients' health status.
• Provide direct clinical care to patients.
• Prescribe medications, therapies; order lab tests and procedures.
• Evaluate patients for further care needs.
• Educate patients and families; document care in medical records.
• Refer to other disciplines as appropriate; act as consultant and preceptor.

Education

Master’s degree from accredited school/college of nursing or accredited Physician Assistant Program

Acute care certification for APRNs

Current Illinois RN license and Illinois APRN license or PA license
