Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking Cardiac Sonographers for full‑time, part‑time and per diem roles across Boston area sites. A $15K sign‑on bonus is offered. New grads are welcome to apply.

Duties include comprehensive echocardiograms and collaboration with physicians in busy clinical settings. Qualifications include RCS, CCI and RDCS credentials with ARDMS and BLS, and an Associate’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred.

Qualifications

  • Solid knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology in the population
  • Ability to assess medical history and contraindications to echo testing
  • Excellent communication with patients, families, and staff

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive echocardiograms following lab protocol
  • Utilize 2DE, M-mode, Doppler, CEUS and advanced echo techniques
  • Perform echocardiography exams including stress and ACHD variants
  • Assist physicians in Cath Lab/OR for complex procedures
  • Prepare exam room and equipment ensuring safety and cleanliness
  • Able to move heavy ultrasound equipment throughout the hospital

Job description

We have a variety of full-time, part‑time, and per diem Cardiac Sonographer openings across Mass General Brigham sites in the Boston area.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive and high‑quality echocardiogram following MGH Echocardiography Lab protocol.
  • Utilize a variety of techniques, such as 2DE, M-mode, Doppler, Agitated saline contrast, Ultrasound Enhancement Agents (UEA), 2D strain or 3DE, etc.
  • Perform a variety of echocardiography exams, including Stress echocardiogram, Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) echocardiogram, CRT, Ramp study, etc.
  • May assist physicians in the Catheterization Lab and OR by performing echocardiography studies to aid them in proceeding with complex procedures to decrease risk factors.
  • Apply independent judgment during the echocardiography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. As necessary, acquire additional ultrasound imaging to facilitate optimal diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
  • Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct echocardiography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and patient safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be able to push a 300lb ultrasound equipment throughout the hospital when assigned to a portable rotation.
Education
  • Associate's degree Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred
Licenses and Credentials
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer [RCS]
  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer [RDCS]
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required Basic Life Support [BLS]
Experience
  • Experience as a cardiac sonographer preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Solid knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology in the specific population being cared for.
  • Understanding of cardiovascular diseases and conditions and related symptoms.
  • Ability to assess relevant medical history, patient‑reported concerns, and any contraindications or limitations to echo testing.
  • Good understanding of equipment function and ultrasound physics.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient and staff safety and patient experience through adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
  • Ability to mobilize heavy ultrasound machines as well as occasionally lift patients from stretchers or wheelchairs, assist incontinent patients, and lift boxes of supplies.
  • Ability to spend prolonged time standing while working.
  • Ability to work as a team and collaborate with all role groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and critical thinking skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, and colleagues, including physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and peers.
