Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in cardiac monitoring.
• Licenses/Certificates: Certificate of completion of an approved arrhythmia course; rhythm interpretation certification (CRAT or CET) preferred; BLS from AHA.
• Successful completion of the hospital’s cardiac rhythm interpretation competency exam prior to independent monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Continuously observes the cardiac monitors of all assigned telemetry patients; do not leave monitors unattended without hand-off.
• Identifies and interprets arrhythmias and dysrhythmias; informs nurse of significant changes; supplies rhythm strips.
• Runs, labels, interprets, and files rhythm strips every four hours or as instructed.
• Document initiation/termination of codes and rhythm changes during Code Blue.
• Responds to monitor alarms promptly and notifies nursing staff to correct issues.
• Admits, transfers, and discharges patients in central monitoring system; verifies identity and logs.
• Maintains monitoring equipment and reports malfunctions.
