Job summary

Capital Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to work in the operating room, assisting surgeons and maintaining sterile technique. The role requires passing instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and supporting the circulating nurse throughout procedures.

Minimum education includes a high school diploma or GED with NJ surgical tech program completion or LPN licensure; BLS is required. The position offers competitive pay and full-time hours with a 40-hour week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a New Jersey approved or accredited program for surgical technicians or LPN school graduate with current LPN license.
• Certification from nationally recognized body for surgical technician preferred.
• AHA BLS: required or obtained before end of orientation.
• Excellent attention to detail and listening skills.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates surgeon needs by passing instruments, sutures and items during procedures.
• Assists the surgeon by retracting tissue and handling instruments under direct supervision.
• Maintains an organized sterile field throughout procedures.
• Selects sterilization methods and ensures instruments are sterile prior to use.
• Assists with case carts, prepares OR with sterile supplies based on the procedure card.
• Performs scrub assistance and supports patient care plan during turnover.
