SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital in Lake Saint Louis, MO, seeks a Student Nurse Extern to gain hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of experienced nurses and a dedicated preceptor.

This transitional role helps you apply classroom knowledge in real patient care settings and explore nursing specialties while preparing for RN licensure. You will participate in unit activities in Cardiac, with a flexible schedule to meet academic requirements, and you’ll develop skills in patient care,

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of first clinical rotation, or no more than 90 days post conferral date
• Basic Life Support certification (BLS HCP) is required

Responsibilities

• Completes patient care tasks based on skills deemed competent in nursing school under direction of RN
• Assists with activities of daily living including baths, ambulation, feeding, hygiene and bed making
• Assists and performs procedures such as dressing changes, ostomy care, turning, catheter care, specimen collection and I&O recording
• Relays information via charting and communicates with team members to support care
• Supports patient safety and quality care as part of the care team
• Prepares patients for discharge and assists with dismissal as indicated
• Orients new patients and significant others to the unit

Education
