Cardiac Monitor Technician (250001UI)

Description

Under general supervision, follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. Responsible for monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias; reporting these findings to the appropriate personnel, and rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy. Promotes and maintains patient support including but not limited to: interprets and posts rhythm strips and protocols, performs 12-lead EKGs. Maintains and cleans portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturer's guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately interprets changes in rhythms.
  • Records rhythm strips as required.
  • Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition skills.
  • Communicates lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and documents strips as requested.
  • Maintains alarms at all times with rates set safely to minimize false alarms.
  • Identifies individual EKGs with proper patient identifiers.
  • Works with the computer system, including maintaining flow through the ER and facilitating transfers, admissions, and discharges in a timely manner.
  • Answers telephone and intercom in a pleasant and professional manner and relays messages accurately and quickly.
  • Reports any malfunction of monitoring equipment to Biomedical Technicians, Charge Nurse, and Nursing Director.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

License/Registration: License/Registration issued by Florida or a Compact State

Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Work Experience and Additional Information:

  • Basic EKG class and demonstration of competency through testing.
