University of California - San Diego Medical Centers in San Diego is seeking a clinician to support CIEDs including pacemakers, ICDs, and Loop recorders. Under general supervision, you will perform in-person interrogations, programming, and remote monitoring transmissions to ensure device performance and patient care.

You will manage daily alerts, triage arrhythmias, document findings in the EMR, coordinate follow-ups, and educate patients on device function and EMI safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology or related field (i.e. Kinesiology, Cardiovascular science, or Health Science) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completed certification training from an Electrophysiology program.
  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience within a Device Clinic setting or equivalent.
  • Experience with CIED interrogation/programming (Abbott, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Biotronik).

  • Ensure patient compliance with home transmitter setups and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
  • Clinical Documentation & Administration
  • Provide accurate, timely documentation of all findings in the EMR and device tracking databases.
  • Coordinate scheduling for routine follow-ups and urgent device evaluations.
  • Educate patients and families on device function, EMI safety, and the importance of remote monitoring.

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, this role is the critical link in the continuum of care for patients with Cardiac Implantable Electronic Devices (CIEDs), including pacemakers, ICDs, and Loop recorders. The Hospital Lab tech will combine advanced technical expertise with compassionate patient interaction, supporting both in-person clinical interrogations and remote monitoringtransmissions to ensure optimal device performance and patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors in Exercise Physiology or related field (i.e. Kinesiology, Cardiovascular science, or Health Science) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completed certification training from an Electrophysiology program.
  • BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience within a Device Clinic setting or equivalent.
  • Experience with CIED interrogation/programming (Abbott, Boston Scientific, Medtronic, Biotronik).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RECS).
  • International board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE) certification.
  • Prior experience in Cardiac Device clinic setting.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $87,404 - $108,743 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $41.86 - $52.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
