House of Delegates seeks an Assistant Tour Supervisor to manage daily visitor experiences and educational programs at the Virginia State Capitol. You will help lead tour guides, coordinate large-group schedules, and ensure smooth operations with Capitol Police and staff.

The role requires a history- or hospitality-related degree, 2–3 years in visitor services (1 year in supervision), and strong public speaking skills to engage diverse audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in History, Political Science, Museum Studies, Hospitality, Communications, or related field.
  • 2–3 years in visitor services, museum education, historic site operations, or hospitality management, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • Deep familiarity with Virginia history, the legislative process, and Capitol Square's significance.
  • Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills; ability to engage diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Supervision: Oversee and coach frontline tour guides; lead daily team briefings.
  • Tour Coordination & Logistics: Manage master schedule for guided and self-guided tours.
  • Visitor Experience Quality: Conduct high-profile tours; ensure historic accuracy and inclusivity.
  • Operational Oversight: Act as floor supervisor during peak hours; handle feedback, emergencies, accessibility.
  • Administrative Support: Create staff schedules; assist with ticketing system; track visitor metrics; coordinate with Capitol Police.
