Job summary

State of Michigan in Lansing seeks a security professional responsible for protecting the Capitol Complex and Senators, staff, and visitors. The role focuses on public relations, incident preparedness, and monitoring operations to ensure safety during daytime schedules.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent required (bachelor’s degree preferred).
• Minimum of five years professional law enforcement work experience required.
• MCOLES certification as a Police Officer or eligible for immediate certification reinstatement required.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit for extended periods and stay attentive.
• Ability to participate in physical training and firearms qualifications.
• Extensive knowledge of law enforcement functions and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
• Ability to comprehend and apply Senate Rules, policies, and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Provide public relations support and serve as the first point of contact for visitors.
• Monitor security camera systems from the Operations Center and respond as needed.
• Provide security and protection at legislative events outside the Capitol as required.
• Support incident preparedness and response activities.
