Job summary

The State of Montana is seeking a dedicated custodian to join the General Services Division’s custodial team. You will clean the Capitol building and nearby facilities, handle routine upkeep, and support event setup and cleanup.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid driver’s license. The role requires attention to safety, reliability, and the ability to work during a 1pm–9:30pm shift (3:00pm–11:30pm during legislative sessions).

What is this career opportunity?

The General Services Division is seeking an energetic, service-oriented individual to join their custodial team that is responsible for cleaning the Capitol building and a few other small buildings. You would perform a variety of tasks such as cleaning floors and restrooms, washing walls and glass, removing rubbish, performing routine upkeep activities, event set-up and clean-up and notifying management when repairs are needed. You would respond to emergencies involving the clean-up of potential biohazards and food/beverage spills. The Capitol building is a historic treasure containing ornate art and classical architecture which requires unique techniques and strategies for cleaning and maintenance. You would be responsible for ensuring proper cleaning methods and techniques are followed and used for a variety of situations and applications.

The shift available — Monday through Friday from 1pm to 9:30pm outside of Legislative Session (January through April of odd number years). During Legislative session the shift is from 3:00pm to 11:30pm.

What are we looking for?

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.

  • Self-motivated, able to take on work as assigned or as required by a given circumstance
