Job summary

American Water seeks a Senior Capital Program Specialist to oversee the financial aspects of Enterprise Capital Program Management, governance, policies, and reporting. You will consolidate the 5-Year Capital Plan and manage SOX compliance, working closely with Engineering, Accounting, Rates, and Tax teams.

The role requires strong skills in PowerPlan, SAP, and related systems, with 5–7 years of experience in finance or capital project management within the water sector.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or engineering (water/wastewater preferred).
• 5–7 years of post-bachelor’s experience in finance or capital project management.
• Strong analytical and budgeting skills with attention to detail.
• Experience coordinating across Engineering, Accounting, Rates, and Tax teams.
• Knowledge of capital program governance, SOX controls, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and consolidate the 5-Year Capital Plan and quarterly reforecasts.
• Lead monthly reviews of the Enterprise Capital Budget and CPM meetings; prepare agendas/minutes; validate SOX controls.
• Design and deliver training on financial aspects and systems (PowerPlan, SAP, eBuilder) for Project Managers.
• Perform capital reporting using PowerPlan and SAP for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., BRIS, SOX, SEC).
• Serve as liaison between Engineering/Capital and Finance, Rates, Tax, and Utility Plant Accounting on CPM topics.
