Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Development Manager to join the Professional Development team with offices in San Francisco, New York, Santa Monica, Los Angeles, and Palo Alto. The role focuses on staffing, utilization and development of associates across the firm.

You will partner with practice group leaders and partners to allocate work, monitor workloads, and drive performance reviews and coaching to support associate growth and collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct staffing and work allocation experience in a large law firm or professional services organization or 5+ years combined law firm PD and prior practice experience
• Strong coaching and mentoring skills
• Experience coordinating with HR/Legal Talent and practice group leaders
• Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information and build stakeholder relationships

Responsibilities

• Manage staffing and work allocation for associates across practice groups
• Monitor workloads and associate development, allocate new matters to ensure equitable distribution
• Track associate metrics, availability, and utilization; support performance reviews
• Coordinate onboarding, integration, and onboarding schedules with Legal Talent and HR
• Support the associate review process and deliver coaching that aligns with development goals
• Identify high performers and at-risk associates and coordinate mentoring and training
• Collaborate with Diversity & Inclusion and Wellness teams to promote inclusive culture
