Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Development Manager to join the Professional Development team in San Francisco. The role supports associate staffing, utilization, integration and development across practice groups, working with group leaders and the Legal Talent team.

You will coordinate staffing needs, track metrics, support performance reviews, mentor associates, help onboarding, and deliver coaching and training programs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct experience with staffing and work allocation in a large law firm or professional services organization.
• Senior level candidates must have 7+ years applicable experience with 2+ years of exempt/management experience.
• JD Degree preferred; substantial experience in talent management and professional development is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and iManage is required.

Responsibilities

• Work with practice group leaders and partners to manage staffing allocations for associates.
• Monitor workloads and associate development, and allocate matters equitably.
• Track and analyze associate metrics and utilization rates; support performance reviews.
• Coordinate with Legal Talent to align hiring with group goals.
• Lead onboarding, orientation, and integration for new hires.
• Deliver coaching and training programs in collaboration with Development and Education teams.
• Foster mentoring and address performance challenges with timely interventions.
• Promote diversity and inclusion initiatives within the team.
