Job summary

Cooley LLP seeks an Associate Development Manager to join the Professional Development team in Los Angeles, CA. The role focuses on staffing, utilization, integration, and development for associates, collaborating with practice groups and the Legal Talent team.

You will analyze metrics, support performance reviews, and foster mentoring and coaching to advance associate careers while aligning with client needs and firm goals.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct experience with staffing and work allocation in a large law firm or professional services organization
• 7+ years senior level experience with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles
• JD degree preferred and substantial experience in work allocation, talent management, coaching, professional development or personnel management

Responsibilities

• Work with practice group leaders and partners to manage staffing and work allocation for associates
• Monitor workloads and development; allocate new matters to ensure equitable distribution and client needs
• Track associate metrics, utilization, and availability to support productivity goals
• Coordinate staffing needs with Legal Talent and onboarding teams
• Support performance review process and implement feedback with coaching from Professional Development
• Facilitate mentor-mentee relationships and address challenges with timely actions
• Collaborate with HR/Wellness and Diversity teams to promote inclusive culture and wellbeing
• Lead onboarding and integration initiatives for new hires and assist with exit interviews
