Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Capacity Procurement Engineer/Analyst to join the System Planning - Generation Procurement team at the Atlanta HQ. You will support RFP design, bid evaluation, and contracts for energy storage and generation to meet future capacity needs.

You will collaborate with internal partners, regulators, and external stakeholders, progressing projects through RFP phases, PPAs, and APAs while aligning with corporate goals and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, finance or related technical/business area preferred.
• Master’s degree and/or relevant industry certifications given additional consideration.
• Experience in generation, renewables, analytics, project management, system planning and/or operations preferred.
• Experience negotiating, developing, and/or managing procurement contracts (PPAs, APAs, BTAs, EPCs, LTSA) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the lifecycle development and administration of capacity RFPs.
• Interface with internal partner organizations to design, implement, and administer capacity RFPs including bid evaluation and contract development.
• Work with regulators and third-party evaluators during RFP design, implementation, and administration.
• Identify and implement process improvements and program enhancements.
• Lead efforts to track major milestones for capacity RFPs and associated projects.
• Provide regulatory support such as witness preparation, testimony, and data request responses.
• Foster and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
