Job summary

Crane is seeking a Capacity Planning Supervisor, Ground to lead the Capacity Planning Specialist team. You will ensure every shipment has a qualified carrier on time to meet pickup windows, manage open shipments, and maintain cost discipline across final carrier charges.

Ideal candidates have 5–7 years in carrier procurement or capacity management, 1–3 years leading a team, experience with Aljex or similar TMS, and strong data skills with Power BI and MS Office.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in carrier procurement, truckload brokerage, dispatch, or capacity management, including 1–3 years leading or supervising a team.
• Demonstrated ability to secure capacity in a tight market and negotiate rates without sacrificing margin.
• Hands-on experience with a brokerage or transportation management system; Descartes Aljex strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of US domestic ground freight modes (FTL, LTL, intermodal) and hours-of-service constraints.
• Data literacy to build a cost and coverage narrative and defend it to program leadership.
• Availability to support a 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities

• Own the open shipments board across the shift and ensure coverage ahead of pickup window.
• Approve rate exceptions and maintain margin discipline.
• Manage carrier performance and remove underperforming carriers.
• Forecast demand against capacity by lane and plan for peaks.
• Coordinate with other supervisors when consolidation changes commitments.
• Onboard and coach planners on Aljex, Open Dock, HVHR procedures, and MacroPoint.
