Job summary

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is seeking a Capacity Management Analyst to partner with leadership in access and capacity planning across ambulatory services. You will leverage data, analytics, and Epic knowledge to identify opportunities, develop insights, and drive sustainable improvements that enhance patient access and experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; 4 years of relevant experience required.

Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center's James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute is one of the nation's leading cancer programs and the only cancer center in the country that combines a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with a nationally ranked academic medical center on the campus of one of the nation's largest public universities. The Capacity Management Analyst plays a critical role in advancing these efforts by leveraging analytics, forecasting, and process improvement methodologies to support access, capacity management, resource optimization, and an exceptional patient experience.

Position Summary

The Capacity Management Analyst of Patient Access and Capacity Planning serves as a strategic partner within The James Cancer Hospital's Patient Access and Capacity Management team, reporting to the Associate Director of Capacity Management and supporting the Senior Director of Patient Access.

This role is responsible for partnering with clinical, operational, and service line leadership to influence, define, and execute key strategic and tactical initiatives that improve patient access, optimize capacity, and enhance ambulatory operations across assigned service lines.

The Capacity Management Analyst leverages data, analytics, operational expertise, and Epic system knowledge to identify opportunities, develop actionable insights, and drive sustainable performance improvement. This position serves as a subject matter expert in access management, provider template optimization, Epic scheduling workflows, capacity planning, and ambulatory operational performance. In addition, this role will serve as a key partner in Epic provider template governance by coordinating, evaluating, and executing template modification requests, ensuring changes align with operational strategy, capacity goals, and standardized scheduling practices. The analyst is expected not only to develop, optimize, and distribute reports, dashboards, and scorecards, but also to translate data into meaningful recommendations, facilitate decision-making, and support the implementation of long-term solutions that enhance efficiency, improve patient experience, and increase access to care.

Working collaboratively across departments, the analyst leads complex analyses, monitors key performance indicators, evaluates operational trends, and supports strategic planning efforts. The role requires a strong understanding of healthcare operations, data governance, performance improvement methodologies, and change management principles to ensure data-driven decisions result in measurable and sustainable outcomes aligned with organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Epic Certification preferred
  • Experience in patient access or capacity management preferred
  • Direct experience with customer relations and problem-solving
  • Experience with data collection and analysis, and proficiency in tools such as Tableau, Qlik, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable. 4 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Ongoing: Continuous learning requirements required, additional capacity management certification preferred.
