Job summary

Ohiocraftbeer is seeking a Canning Line Operator / Cellar Person to join our brewing team. You will operate and maintain the Legacy WGC-5 canning line, manage packaging tasks, and support cellar operations from fermentation to finished product.

You will monitor gravities and pH, perform CIP/sanitation, follow SOPs, and assist with QA activities. The role requires flexibility for overtime and a passion for craft beer.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year experience operating canning equipment (Wild Goose or other).
  • Able to multi-task and work in a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
  • Flexible hours and overtime when needed.
  • Understanding of brewing processes including CIP and sanitation.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain Legacy WGC-5 canning line and related equipment.
  • Package beer: carbonating, kegging, and canning operations.
  • CIP and sanitation of fermentation tanks, kegs, and packaging gear.
  • Monitor fermentation (gravity and pH) and log brew day notes.
  • Follow SOPs across brewing, fermentation, transfer, and packaging.
  • Maintain clean cellar and cold storage; assist with QA activities.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Canning Line Operator / Cellar Person is part of a team responsible for all aspects of processes related to brewing, fermentation, conditioning, treatment, carbonation, packaging, and any other processes required to achieve a final product ready for consumption. The primary responsibility of this employee will be to operate and maintain our Wild Goose Canning line and associated equipment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operating and maintaining a Legacy WGC-5 canning line, including a Ska can depalletizer,twist rinse/cleaner, and an in-line labeler
  • Packaging duties including carbonating, kegging, and canning operations
  • CIP (clean-in-place) and sanitizing of fermentation tanks, kegs, and packaging equipment
  • Cellaring duties including fermentation monitoring (checking gravities and pH) Logging of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging (Kegs & cans)
  • Following SOPs (standard operating procedures) in each phase of brewing, fermentation, transferring and packaging
  • Maintaining a clean and organized cellar and cold storage
  • Cleaning and maintenance of cellar, packaging, and draft beer dispensing equipment
  • Careful execution of treatments for specialty beers (dry hopping & fruit additions)
  • Assistance with yeast handling and management
  • Assistance with Quality Assurance activities
  • Duties at the discretion of the Lead Brewer and Brewing Operations Manager
REQUIREMENTS
  • 1+ year(s) experience operating canning equipment (Wild Goose or other)
  • A strong passion for craft beer and a desire to advance personal growth in the brewing industry
  • Strong organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and good critical thinking/problem solving skills
  • Some understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization
  • Flexibility in terms of hours and a willingness to work some later shifts and overtime when needed
  • Prior packaging, canning / bottling, and kegging experience
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work as part of a team
EXPERIENCE IN ANY OF THE FOLLOWING IS PREFERABLE
  • 1+ year(s) experience within the brewing industry
  • Experience running and maintaining Wild Goose Canning equipment
  • Experience with QC testing of packaged beverages (dissolved oxygen, can seams, etc)
  • Mechanical experience and aptitude
  • Forklift operation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl
  • Heavy physical work including climbing stairs, lifting kegs, pulling hoses, etc.
  • Willing to work in wet, hot and cold conditions
  • Willing to work in consistently loud environments
  • Ability to work safely with potentially hazardous chemicals
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move objects up to 55 pounds and occasionally move and/or maneuver up to 165 pounds safely
