Job summary

LAAW is seeking a Brew Technician to join our Brewing Operations Team in Hawthorne, CA. You will manage cellar tasks, wort production, tank transfers, CIP/SIP, dry hopping, yeast management and packaging support under the Director Of Brewing.

Ideal candidates have 2 years of production brewing experience or formal brewing education, strong communication, safety focus and the ability to operate forklift. Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits are offered.

  • Familiarity with centrifugation or can filler operations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Safe handling of chemicals, gases, pressurized vessels, hot water and promoting safe work practices.
  • Operate and maintain standard brewery and quality equipment.
  • Understand quality metrics and follow prioritized production schedules.
  • Perform cellar tasks: Tank CIP/SIP, transfers, yeast harvests, dry hopping, DO measurement.
  • Assist with packaging: canning line operations, CIP, packoff, labeling.
  • General cleaning and inventory duties to keep the facility organized.

Job description

This position will be involved in all facets of Brewing. As a member of the Brewing Operations Team at LAAW you will work within the Brewing Department, reporting to the Director Of Brewing in all areas of Brewing, Cellaring, and Packaging. You will be responsible for tasks related to the day to day operations within the brewery including general operations within the cellar, tank transfers both with and without the use of a centrifuge, tank CIP’s, dry hopping procedures, wort production, general upkeep and cleaning within the brewery, and packaging operations.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Safe handling of chemicals, gasses, pressurized vessels, hot water as well as the general promotion of safe work practices and procedures within the brewery.
  • Proper use and knowledge of standard brewery and quality equipment.
  • Understanding of quality related metrics
  • Ability to understand and follow a prioritized production schedule.
  • Execute cellar tasks including, but not limited to:
  • Tank CIP and SIP
  • Beer centrifugation and transfers or filtering, using a rough screen filter
  • Yeast harvests
  • Dry Hopping and fruit additions to fermenters and brite tanks
  • Dissolved Oxygen Measurement
  • General parts and equipment upkeep/ maintenance
  • Receiving shipments and communicating inventory to the Director.
  • Assisting fellow Brewers on duty with various tasks on an as needed basis.
  • General cleaning and inventory duties aimed at keeping the facility clean and organized.
  • Packaging tasks including but not limited to
  • Assisting Lead Packaging Operator on canning line operations; including filler operation, CIP, packoff, labeling, cold box storage

Physical Requirements
  • Lift 55lbs and move (160lb+) heavy objects
  • Stand and move 8+ hours/day
  • Ability to handle and work safely with hazardous materials and pressurized vessels
  • Work in hot or cold environments for extended periods
