Job summary

Humane Society of Delaware County seeks a Canine Department Manager to lead the canine program, oversee care, intake, pathway planning, foster, behavior, and adoption. The role requires staff leadership, population management, and adherence to HSDC policies and standards.

You will supervise Dog Caretakers and Foster Coordinator, coordinate cross-department efforts, and ensure welfare-focused decisions align with organizational capacity.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated management/supervisory experience; shelter or animal welfare preferred.
• Strong leadership, coaching, conflict-resolution, customer-service, communication, and judgment.

Responsibilities

• Lead canine care team, set expectations, ensure staffing and coverage.
• Oversee pathway planning, population decisions, and collaboration with other leads.
• Ensure high-quality humane care, enrichment, and safety protocols for dogs.
• Coordinate canine intake, applications, and adoption/foster pathways.
• Manage adoption activities, inquiries, and barrier resolution.
• Develop, review, and teach SOPs; train volunteers and staff.
• Monitor KPIs, records, and reporting; support budgeting and planning.
