Job summary

UC San Diego Health Sciences is seeking a Cancer Research Associate II in the Department of Medicine. The role involves performing experiments, handling animals, and conducting molecular biology work to develop gene transfer vectors.

You will support in vivo imaging, histology, and data recording while adhering to safety and regulatory guidelines. The candidate will manage lab tasks, coordinate with team members, and train students as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in molecular biology/biochemistry or equivalent.
  • Tissue culture experience including cell counting, freezing, thawing, splitting.
  • Live cell analyses by FACS using fluorescence probes.
  • Care for small lab animals; administering meds and anesthesia.
  • Molecular cloning: design, digestion/ligation, mutagenesis, sequencing.
  • Experience with lab equipment: microscopes, spectrophotometer, centrifuges.
  • Ability to follow protocols and interpret safety guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to train students on techniques and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, perform experiments and record data.
  • Use molecular biology techniques to develop plasmid and viral vectors.
  • Conduct animal studies including breeding, injections, and transgenic mice screening.
  • Perform in vivo imaging, necropsy, tissue trimming, and histology.
  • Maintain lab equipment and order reagents, research relevant protocols.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and document protocols accurately.
  • Coordinate studies with other lab personnel and manage tasks.
