Position Summary

The Cancer Registrar works independently, managing the cancer registry, accreditation activities, patient care evaluations, quality improvement, cancer conferences, annual reports, and education programs. Regular communication with the Iowa State Health registry is required to maintain data standards aligned with the SEER program of the NCI.

Requirements

• Education: 2-year college program in Cancer Registry Management (CRIM) or Cancer Information Management (CIM) from an NCRA accredited program.
• Special Training: Word processing (minimum 60 wpm), spreadsheet applications, medical terminology.
• Licensure: CTR Certification within 24 months.
• Experience: None required.
• Interpersonal Skills: Moderate difficulty and sensitivity in communication, dealing with varied and sometimes stressful interactions.
• Physical Demands: Light exertion, primarily sitting and intermittent walking, minimal physical strain.
• Working Conditions: No significant adverse environmental conditions.
• Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens: None.
