Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
• Word processing and computer experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate well.
• Very organized with ability to perform multiple tasks in a busy environment.
• Operate 10-key calculator by touch, telephone, computer, copier, and fax.
• Type at 40 wpm preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
• Checks in patients, verifies and updates information in the medical record; enters demographics and insurance data; assists with forms and ambulatory needs.
• Maintain appropriate cash and balance cash drawer per policy.
• Process payments and post to billing system.
• Refer patients to financial counselor per collections policy.
• Participate in collecting prior balances at the time of service.
• Maintain scheduling policies and answer calls; sort and deliver mail and records.
• Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.
• Maintain lobby and work area in neat condition; attend required meetings.
• Comply with HIPAA and CHRISTUS Health policies; protect confidentiality.
