Job summary

University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks a proactive outreach specialist to educate students, faculty, and staff on campus recycling. You will craft engaging content, manage events, and develop new procedures to advance sustainability initiatives.

You will build relationships with campus partners, deliver presentations, and expand UT Recycling’s online presence. This role requires strong communication skills and a passion for environmental education on campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or Environmental field.
• 2 years of experience in recycling or related field.
• Knowledge of recycling, compost, sustainability, and related laws.
• Ability to deliver presentations to large groups.
• Experience organizing and managing events related to recycling and sustainability.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and lead communications strategy for UT Recycling to increase campus engagement.
• Promote engagement through classroom visits, tabling events, and social media campaigns.
• Establish ties with the student body and serve as an ambassador for recycling programs.
• Collaborate with local schools to promote environmental education and awareness.
• Act as liaison between UT Recycling and The Office of Sustainability.
• Coordinate sustainability events such as Earth Month, America Recycles Day, and student competitions.
• Manage sustainability internship programs and supervise interns.
• Enhance UT Recycling's online presence with original content for website, blogs, and newsletters.
• Lead Zero Waste Gameday planning and digital media capture at Neyland Stadium.
