Job summary

Barnes & Noble College is hiring a Campus Store Team Member (Temporary) to deliver an exceptional retail experience, assist with store operations, and help students, faculty, and alumni. The role supports merchandising, POS transactions, and inventory tasks in a fast-paced campus bookstore environment.

Temporary assignments offer varied weekly hours and may last up to 90 days based on business needs. Prior retail or customer service experience is helpful, and a flexible schedule is required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age (minimum age in California locations is 18).
• Previous retail or customer service experience preferred.
• Passion for delivering exceptional customer service and creating a positive shopping experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with customers and teammates.
• Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and adapt to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule throughout the temporary assignment based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver an exceptional customer experience by greeting customers, answering questions, and providing friendly, knowledgeable service.
• Assist customers in locating course materials, school supplies, apparel, gifts, convenience items, and other merchandise that best meets their needs.
• Operate the point-of-sale system to accurately process transactions, including cash, credit, and financial aid purchases.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked sales floor through merchandising, replenishment, recovery, and housekeeping.
• Support daily store operations by assisting with inventory, receiving merchandise, order fulfillment, and other operational tasks to keep the store customer-ready.
• Develop product knowledge by staying informed about merchandise, promotions, store services, and course materials to confidently assist customers.
• Work collaboratively with teammates to accomplish daily priorities while adapting to changing business needs in a fast-paced retail environment.
• Contribute to a clean, safe, and organized store environment that reflects the Barnes & Noble College brand and delivers an exceptional customer experience.
