Job summary

SJMHS-West Market in Michigan is seeking a Security Police Officer to safeguard patients, staff and visitors. Under supervision of the Chief of Security Police, you will perform patrols, enforce policies, respond to incidents, and prepare detailed reports.

This full-time role requires a valid Michigan driver's license, MCOLES readiness, and the ability to apply appropriate force within policy to preserve life and property.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in campus security/police, military, or law enforcement preferred.
• Successfully complete and pass a psychological evaluation.
• MCOLES license preferred or ability to pass PA330 academy within six months.
• Maintain the qualifications required by MCOLES and the State of Michigan.
• Maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license.
• Demonstrates the ability to operate an Electronic Control Device (Taser) and use force as required.
• Maintains Taser Certification and annual review.

Responsibilities

• Represent the health system to patients, staff and visitors.
• Patrols and monitors the grounds to ensure policies and laws are followed, responding to violations.
• Responds to emergencies, alarms, weapons threats, medical events, and other public safety incidents.
• Exercise judgment on detentions, searches, and use of force within legal parameters.
• Completes daily activity and incident reports.
• Maintains security equipment and reports hazards.
• Responds to complaints and assists patients and staff with access and safety.
• Reports improper parking, security breaches, and other incidents.
• Self-reports off-duty police contact and court orders that could affect firearm ownership.
• Maintains knowledge of applicable laws and Trinity Health standards.
