Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police and Public Safety Department is seeking a Security Officer to patrol campus buildings, parking lots, and other facilities, ensuring areas are secure and hazards are eliminated. You will assist visitors and departments, with rotating shifts and onsite work arrangements.

Starting hourly wage is $16.00. Applicants must have a High School diploma or GED and a Alabama Driver's License or state ID within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

Inventory and manage keys to ensure doors are locked or opened per schedule.
Lock/unlock doors as scheduled and on special requests.
Observe for criminal activity or suspicious circumstances and take action.
Call police for assistance when suspicious activity is observed and assist responders.
Contribute to a sense of safety and security on university properties.
Reduce opportunities for crime on campus and property.
Identify offenders and request police involvement when appropriate.
Cooperate with state and local agencies as required.
Assist visitors and staff with directions and information.
Patrol post areas with emphasis on high-risk locations.
Monitor for rule violations and report incidents as needed.
Follow department policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
